Prison officers told to be mindful of what they post on social media

Commissioner of Prisons (Ag), Mr. Deopersad Ramoutar is advising all officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service to exercise caution, due diligence and astuteness, especially when off-duty.

He is also warning officers to be mindful of information placed in the public domain via social media.

In an advisory issued on Friday, Ramoutar cited the practice of publishing personal information such as location, abode and relatives, which can lead to them becoming targets of criminal elements.

He reiterated that officers do not owe social media any information and this practice can do more harm than good.

Commissioner Ramoutar reminded his members of staff that once recruited, a Prisons Officer cannot fully function as an average person, as everything they do and say will be judged as a Prisons Officer. He added that not everyone understands or appreciates the virtue of being a Prisons Officer and officers must strive to lift the character and standard of the roles that they took an oath to fulfill.
