Prison officer dies from COVID-19

The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service is mourning the loss of prisons officer Nixon Lokai.

Lokai died on Tuesday after battling with COVID-19.

In a statement released yesterday, the Prison Service said Lokai had over 12 years of service and was last assigned to the Carrera Island Convict Prison.

It said Lokai had been ailing for some time with the virus and was in a coma in the past few days.

Commissioner of Prisons, Dennis Pulchan expressed his most sincere and deepest condolences on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, to the family, friends, batch members and colleagues of Officer Lokai.

He also sent prayers that all those grieving Lokai’s death will be granted comfort during this difficult and trying period.

Pulchan assured that all courtesies will be extended to the officer’s family.
