PriceSmart and TTMA make generous donation to TTPS

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said it is once again humbled by the display of support from corporate Trinidad and Tobago.

On Thursday May 27th, at the PriceSmart Chaguanas Shoppers Club, PriceSmart and the Trinidad and Tobago Merchant’s Association (TTMA) supplied the TTPS with a generous donation of three laptops, three desk top computers, seven microwaves, nine toasters and nine refrigerators.

Deputy Commissioner of Police – Intelligence and Investigations, Mc Donald Jacob and Acting Superintendent of the Gender Based Violence Unit, Claire Guy-Alleyne, both expressed their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the collaborative effort by the PriceSmart team and the TTMA. DCP Jacob shared that the donation could not have come at a better time as the TTPS is mere weeks away from launching the Special Victims Department.

This branch of the TTPS will house the Gender Based Violence Unit, the Child Protection Unit and the Sexual Offenses Unit. He said this department is not just a ‘station’ to take reports, but it is space where the survivors can come to get the necessary assistance they need to begin their recovery process. In this aspect, the space needs to reflect the safety, security, and most importantly the care and comfort these survivors need. The items will not only benefit victims but will also allow officers to perform their duties optimally as they will be functioning in an environment that is more conducive to the lengthy hours they spend at work.

The small event was attended by PriceSmart’s Director of Manufacturing and Exports, Vashti Maharaj, Regional Membership Marketing Manager, Antonia Saul, Club Manager for Chaguanas Eunice Superville and Team Lead for TTMA, Christian George. Also in attendance were members of the I Support Our Service (ISOS) Secretariat who were instrumental in the partnership.
