Price Of Goods From China To Drop, Says Couva Point Lisas Chamber

A drop in the cost of consumer goods, coming from China, may soon materialise.

This is according to Mukesh Ramsingh, president of the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce (CPLCC).

Speaking with the media at the recent opening of The Port TT, a shipping container-style food court at Southern Main Road, Mc Bean, Couva, Ramsingh said the cost of shipping a 40-foot container of goods from China has drastically dropped to around US$1,650 from a recent high of almost US$25,000.

As such, he said the CPLCC is in talks with the Hauliers Association on the issue of container haulage costs from the port caused by increased fuel costs.

Meanwhile, Ramsingh pointed to the benefits that The Port TT will bring to the Couva area, key among them, employment.
