President’s handling of PSC matter “left a lot to be desired” says attorney

Attorney at law Om Lalla says the UNC is simply using the Parliament as a forum to express its discontent over the actions of President Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes.

He made his comment as the opposition filed a motion to set up a tribunal to have President Weekes removed from office as a result of the collapse of the Police Service Commission and its failure to submit a Merit List to the Parliament for the appointment of a Commissioner and Acting Commissioner of Police.

The Electoral College is set to meet on Thursday at 11:30 Am to address the motion which is expected to fail unless a Parliamentary majority is attained.

Mr Lalla suggested that the opposition is using one of its very limited means to air its grievances with the President’s handling of the matter.

Noting that the matter has now evolved into a constitutional crisis, Mr Lalla expressed his belief that the management of the issue left a lot to be desired.
