President Weekes To Politicians: Assurance That Things Will Get Better Desperately Needed

Politicians are told there is a desperate need for assurance that things will get better.

This comment came from President, Paula Mae Weekes, during the ceremonial opening of the second session of the 12th Parliament at the Red House on Monday.

President Weekes said the country is trying to make to a rebound after two long years of the Covid-19, and with the various challenges facing the nation, people are demanding more from their representatives.

Citing unemployment, crime, racism, environmental disasters and child abuse, Her Excellency said the population is looking to politicians to step up in their function.

President Weekes said the chambers are not a venue for partisanship but for patriotism which transcends culture, racial and political bounds.
