The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) is set to publish the preliminary list of persons registered to vote in the upcoming local government election on Tuesday.
Nomination Day is June 26th and the EBC said there will be a nine-day period following the publication of the preliminary list for voters to make any changes related to election registration, including changes of name or address.
Once that is completed, the final revised list will be published, likely by month’s end. That list will be the one used for the election.
As of March, the number of persons registered to vote was 1,144,312.
Last month the EBC launched a national verification exercise with temporary field officers visiting registrants to verify that they are still at the addresses the EBC has for them on its records.
The size of the electorate in the 2019 local government election was 1,079,976.
The PNM continued screenings on Wednesday in several areas where nominees had not yet been chosen. Some incumbents were not chosen in certain Tunapuna and Chaguanas electoral seats
The Opposition UNC, meanwhile, will conclude the screening of nominees in Sangre Grande and San Fernando today. The party has particularly targeted the PNM-controlled San Fernando City Corporation.
