Pregnant women test positive for Covid-19

Pregnant women were not spared from the Covid-19 virus.

Dr. Adesh Sijusingh, Director of Women’s Health at the Ministy of Health said that while pregnant women have contracted the virus, they have all recovered.

Those considered high risk include persons who are obese, those with pre-existing medical conditions (smokers, diabetics, anemics), pregant mothers 35-years and older, and those in the and last few months of their pregnancy.

Dr. Sirjusingh said that public maternity services continue to operate in spite of covid, adding that all facilities and services continue to function as normal.

These include out-patient services, and in-patient services such as normal deliveries, caesarean sections, and newborn neonatal special services.
