The Covid19 vaccine will not be available for use for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding.
Speaking at today’s Health Ministry media briefing, Director of Women’s Health, Dr Adesh Sirjusingh, said this however is due simply to the fact that this particular group was not included in recent trials for the jab, the results of which were used to gain emergency approval.
Those under the age of 18 will also not be administered the vaccine in the initial stages, for the same reason.
Dr Sirjusingh said “There simply is not enough data to make a clear recommendation on this vulnerable population.
“Our country will therefore follow the advice of the World Health Organisation when it comes to the emergency authorisation use and of course use our own country’s situational analysis, which may differ from many others in the world.”
