Politicians chastised for Parliamentary ole-talk

Politicians are being chastised for using the Parliament as a political platform rather than addressing the issues of the people.

The criticism comes from former Trade Minister Vasant Bharath.

He spoke as the ongoing rift between the Opposition and the Government was made worse by the Opposition Leader’s “slave master name” comment.

With both parties unable to agree on a host of issues ranging from CARICOM to electoral reform, Mr Bharath pointed out that Parliament seemingly often descends into political mudslinging.

Mr Bharath also addressed the UNC’s upcoming internal elections.

Criticizing the party, he suggested there is little public confidence in the UNC.

He cited the lack of public participation in the party’s affairs is evidence of this.

He added that Mrs Persad-Bissessar has not done enough to attempt to correct the perception of corruption and an apparent lack of democracy within the party.
