Political scientist sticks to his statement

Dr. Bishnu Ragoonath

Political scientists Dr. Bishnu Ragoonath, Head of The department of Political science at UWI’s St Augustine campus, is sticking to his assessment of the 2020 budget, as delivered by Finance Minister Colm Election as an election ploy. Speaking on the Power Breakfast show on Power 102 FM this morning. Dr. Ragonath stressed that based on the 20 Million reduction in allocation for the CEEPEP program, and the announcement of a 15% wage increase, that simple math could tell us that either there will be a reduction in the number of workers, or a reduction in the number of working hours or a combination of both. When pressed about his statement that the Finance Minister ‘tricked’ the population with the announcement.

Dr. Ragonath admitted that he would withdraw the word ‘tricked’ because of its connotation, but that he was responding to a specific question. he admitted that a lack of transparency in the announcement by Minister Imbert regarding the announcement in the budget would have been a more appropriate reference to the situation.
