Police seized a shotgun and ammunition during a roving road check exercise which was conducted in Rio Claro yesterday.

Around 7am on Sunday 23rd May, 2021, officers responded to a report of threats to shoot and went to a house located at Jeffers Crossing, Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro. Upon arrival at the scene, they met a 29-year-old woman who pointed to a man who was about 75 feet away. The woman reported that the man had made threats to shoot her and that he had a shotgun and cartridges in the house.

When officers approached the man, he ran off into some bushes and escaped. Police then searched the house, where they found and took possession of a home-made shotgun and seven rounds 12-gauge cartridges.

Police recorded statements and warrants are to be issued for the arrest of the suspect for the offences of assault by threats to shoot, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition.

The exercise was coordinated by Ag Insp Ragbir, supervised by PC Sutherland, and included officers of the CID, Task Force and Charge Room.
