Police seize firearm and ammo during operation in Carenage

One firearm and a quantity of ammunition were seized by officers of the Carenage Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday, 2nd October, during an Operation Strike Back exercise.

Based on information received, the officers conducted exercise in the Carenage district between the hours of 4am and 10am.

During the exercise, several homes in Carenage were searched, and as the exercise continued, the officers proceeded to a house at L’anse Mitan Road where they saw a man who is known to the police, upon seeing the officers the man ran in the opposite direction at the side of the house. The officers gave chase and observed that the suspect jumped a wall and dropped one black firearm and a magazine with 11 rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were seized.

The exercise was supervised by Snr Thompson, Supt Henry, and Asp Baird and spearheaded by Insp Ramjattan and Sgt Adams and included members of the Western Division Crime Unit, Officers of the Riverine and Marine Unit, the K9 Unit, and estate officers of the Chaguaramas Development Authority.
