Police seeking help in hunt for men involved in murder of soldier on Good Friday

Police are asking anyone with information on the murder of soldier Junior Chase to contact Crime-Stoppers at 800-TIPS.

Junior Chase, 35, of Sewlal Trace, Pepper Village, Fyzabad, was shot multiple times on Good Friday after he tried to defuse an argument involving his common law wife Crystal and a man known to her.

Reports are that Chase was shot dead around 4.30 am, outside the Arabian Trini Pot at Cipero Street, San Fernando where the couple had gone to buy gyros.
It is believed that Crystal and the man got into an argument and Chase went to assist.

However, it is said that the man called some of his friends who pulled up in a car at Cipero Street and began firing on Chase and Crystal.

Chase drew his licensed firearm and returned fire, reportedly hitting one of the suspects. When he fell to the ground dead, the attackers stole his firearm and escaped.

Police said an innocent bystander was also shot.
That victim – a nurse, of Cocoyea, near San Fernando – was hospitalised in stable condition.

Hospital officials were advised to be on the lookout for the injured suspect.

Chase had been a soldier for 14 years and was recently promoted to the rank of corporal.
