Police Officers who passed away due to COVID-19 will not receive monetary compensation

Police Officers who have passed away due to COVID-19 will not be considered for monetary compensation similar to which are paid to the family of officers who are killed in the line of duty.

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, in the House of Representatives this afternoon, said officers who have died due to COVID-19 will not fall in this category.

Dr Rowley said the Ministry of National Security is considering liaising with the Commissioner of Police towards a strong insurance policy for police officers that will include such other situations.

The subject was raised during the question and answer period in the parliament by Opposition Member for Parliament Couva South, Rudy Indarsingh.
