Police Officers may be held liable for malicious prosecution cases

On-going consultations are taking place between Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs, Police Service and Ministry of National Security on the issue of errant officers being held personally liable for damages awarded in malicious persecution cases.

Attorney General, Reginald Armour, told the Senate on Tuesday on March 3rd 2021 a meeting was held with the Police Complaints Authority, and the Police Service Commission to discuss amendments to the Police Complaints Authority Act.

The AG said at the meeting a proposal to amend the state liability and proceedings act was briefly mentioned.
