Police officers attached to the Praedial Larceny Squad issue more calls for meeting with Agri Minister

Police officers attached to the Praedial Larceny Squad say they intend to intensify their action as they make another call for the Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Kazim Hosein to meet with them.
Officers say they learnt through the media that a meeting was held last week between the Minister and the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the Squad, but junior officers are calling on the Minister to meet with them, as the management of the Squad is part of the problem.
The officers believe that the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent have not adequately articulated to the Minister the real issues.
Instead, officers learnt that Superintendent Alexis allegedly took a list of officers to the meeting and requested that the Ministry terminate the employment of these officers.
Some of the officers allegedly identifief were deemed as “troublemakers” however this is being disputed.
The officers identified have a track record of service, currently involved in several matters before the court, having arrested a number of persons for praedial larceny offences.
They are also engaged in active investigations.
Officers contend that the listed officers include those who have spoken out against working conditions and wrongdoing on the part of the Squad’s administration, as well as those who have sent a pre-action protocol letter to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Susan Shurland, after she, acting on the advice of Superintendent Alexis, not only failed to consider more qualified officers, but exercised a power that only the Commissioner of Police possesses and promoted four officers to a higher rank.
The officers also note that Superintendent Alexis has not once met and communicated with his officers since he became head of the Squad in 2020.
Officers say they are willing to resume full duties and the sooner the Minister meets with them, the sooner they can. Members of the farming community and the wider public are again advised to make their reports to the nearest police station or the police emergency hotline at 999.
