Police officer shoots bandit at home

An off-duty police officer exercised his right to defend himself when he shot a bandit who tried to rob him at his home. The bandit died a short later after at the hospital.

At around 1:00p.m. on Monday, Teesfa Wright approached the officer at his Phase 4 La Horquetta home, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he give him cash and other valuables. The officer got his licensed firearm which was on him and shot Wright instead. Wright sustained gunshot wounds to his lower body.

The police officer then called the Ambulance, and Wright was taken to the Arima District Hospital while he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

One firearm and mask were recovered at the crime scene. Police are continuing investigations.
