Police Inspector shoots two at a bar

An off duty police Inspector shot two people including a man and woman at the Caribbean Vibes bar at Southern Main road Marabella. The senior officer reportedly drew his personal firearm after he was beaten by a man and a woman in the bathroom of the bar.

The woman was shot in the chest and abdomen and is in critical condition, while the man was shot twice in abdomen, and is warded in serious condition, police said. Both underwent emergency surgery at hospital.

The two people who were shot were identified as a 26 year old man of Ria Ramnarine Drive, Tarouba, and a 25 year old woman of Penal.

The inspector was treated at the Couva District Health Centre and discharged.

A police report indicated that the Inspector was liming at the bar when around 3.45 a.m. he went to the men’s washroom. He was accosted by the man and woman who hit him behind the head with a bottle. It was then he drew his firearm and fired in their direction hitting both persons.

The police Inspector is said to be attached to the Legal department of the TTPS and on vacation at the time of the incident. Investigations are continuing.
