Police charged with robbing Venezuelan nationals of $US

Two police officers are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Friday charged with misbehavior in public office with robbery.

Corporal Hadeed Mohammed, 42, with 20 years’ service and PC Mukesh Sylvester, 26, with 6 years’ service, were charged with the offence on Thursday 12th March, 2020, following advice received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Reports indicate that three Venezuelan nationals were at an apartment building in Barataria on Monday 9th March, when the two police officers forcibly gained entry into the premises.

The officers robbed the victims of a quantity of US and TT currency at gunpoint before escaping.

A report was made to the police and investigations found that the two police officers were on duty at the time the alleged offences were committed.

They were subsequently arrested by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) on Tuesday 10th March 2020, in connection with the incident.

Both officers were last attached to the North Eastern Division’s, Emergency Response Patrol Unit.
