Police arrest man for domestic violence, finds rifle at home

A 33-year old man was detained on Wednesday for allegations of domestic violence.

On Wednesday, a 35-year-old woman made a report of domestic abuse at the Gasparillo Police Station.

Around 3:40 pm, the victim said she was dropping a man known to her at his residence of Morne Roche Puna Road, Whiteland, when an argument ensued between both parties.

The man then armed himself with a cutlass and dealt several blows to the woman about her body.

He then threw gasoline inside the woman’s vehicle and attempted to set the car ablaze with a lighter.

He also took a brick and threw it towards the vehicle after which the woman became fearful for her life and began running away from the scene.

According to the victim, the man then chased her and continued to beat her about her body. He also threatened to shoot her.

An investigation was launched and the suspect was arrested.

A search warrant was executed at his home and one Gamo Air Riffle was found.

The man could not produce a firearm user’s license and is expected to be charged for this offence.

Investigations are ongoing.
