PNM Councillor on bail after chopping female relative

A woman was chopped during an argument with a male relative, who is said to be a PNM Councilor and that man has since been charged and released on bail.

Reports state the councilor was arrested after he chopped a female relative with a cutlass at Upper Dundonald Hill, St. James on Tuesday.

Councilor Wendell Jeffery, who is the Councilor for Belle Vue/Boissiere #1 at the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, was at his residence allegedly cleaning his yard with a cutlass when he was approached by his cousin Adunna Edwards, who was also armed with a cutlass.

Jeffery and Edwards got into an argument and Edwards subsequently sustained a single chop wound to her back.
She was taken to hospital where she was treated and warded.

A report was subsequently made to the police and Jeffery was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

The councillor was later granted bail by a Justice of the Peace and ordered to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate at a later date.
