PM’s Q&A cancelled after UNC boycott

Local Government Minister Faris Al-Rawi says Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was set to attend yesterday’s Local Government Reform Stakeholder meeting but cancelled his appearance after the UNC announced its boycott.

He revealed that Dr Rowley was prepared to speak and to answer queries from Local Government Representatives including those representing the Opposition.

However, after the UNC members, who represent seven corporations, boycotted the event, the question-and-answer segment involving the PM was cancelled.

Rowley was instead represented by Housing Minister Camille Robinson-Regis.

Only one UNC councillor from the Tunapuna/Regional Corporation attended.

Councillor for Warrenville/Kelly Village Samuel Sankar said this is because he was unaware that UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar had called on councillors to boycott the meeting.

Even after he was informed by some of the attendees of the widely circulated call by the Opposition Leader, Sankar remained at the session saying he never got the revised memo on a boycott.
