PM to host media briefing at 2:30pm following meeting with Health and National Security Ministers

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is meeting with the Health and National Security Ministers on COVID-19, following yesterday’s reports of two additional COVID-19-related deaths and another 223 positive cases.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said in a statement this morning that Dr Rowley chaired a COVID-19 Response Meeting virtually with Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds from the Blenheim residence in Tobago.

The development comes after T&T reported the highest ever jump in reported Covid cases yesterday.
There have been widespread public discussions concerning the upsurge in cases with the population becoming increasingly worried about the arrival of the Brazilian variant and 9 confirmed cases recently.

On Wednesday, the death toll was pushed to 163 with two more fatalities.
The victims were two elderly females, both with co-morbidities.
Additionally, as of Wednesday night, there were 150 hospitalised patients (five in ICU and 12 in HDU).

Dr Rowley, who tested positive for COVID-19 on April 6, tested negative for the virus according to an update Tuesday by the OPM and is now out of isolation.

He is due to return to Trinidad next week.
