PM to deliver his leader’s statement on final day of IX Summit of the Americas

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is scheduled deliver his leader’s statement today the final day of the IX Summit of the Americas, currently being held in Los Angeles, California.

The Office of the Prime Minister via media release, said that Dr Rowley joined other CARICOM Heads of Government on Thursday for a closed-door meeting with US President Joseph Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

During yesterday’s high-level meeting, Prime Minister Rowley delivered remarks on the topic of regional energy security and the importance of urgent cooperation throughout the Americas on this issue.

Thursday’s meeting between the US leadership and regional heads forms part of the activities at the IX Summit of the Americas, the statement from the PM’s Office explained.

Dr Rowley is carded to join joining the other Summit Leaders following his statement, to sign the Los Angeles Declaration, which essentially is being described as “a roadmap for countries to host large numbers of migrants and refugees”.

According to a report in the Associated Press, the Los Angeles Declaration will include, “legal pathways to enter countries, aid to communities most affected by migration, humane border management and coordinated emergency responses”.

Leaders at the Summit acknowledged migration as one of the major challenges facing the hemisphere, along with humane treatment of asylum seekers and displaced peoples.
