The Ministry of Health’s COVID Press Conference scheduled for 11 AM today has been cancelled.
Instead Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley will host a press conference at 2PM.
His address however comes amid concerns over the news coming out of Europe of a new and more infectious COVID strain being discovered in the United Kingdom.
The new variant discovered in the UK prompted authorities to impose a lockdown in London and southeast England and tighten restrictions for all of England over the festive period.
Countries in Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East have now restricted travel from the UK and in some cases, also travel from other countries that have documented cases with the variant.
The variant has also been detected in Denmark, the Netherlands and Australia, according to the World Health Organization.
The Ministry of Health has since also announced new protocols for travellers coming to Trinidad and Tobago from the UK.
Persons who had visited the UK or whose journey began in the UK within 14 days prior to their arrival in T&T will now undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period to be spent in a state or state supervised facility.
