PM says no change – SEA top rankings list will not be published

Despite calls for the Top 200 SEA list to be released, government is holding strong on its decision to not have the rankings published.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, as he responded to a question in the House of Representatives yesterday.

He said information on the ranking of students in the exam can be requested by their parents via an application under the Freedom of Information Act.

“This has been done with regard to the SEA 2022, and that is the situation as it exists now,” he said.

According to Rowley: “The SEA is not a certification exam. It is an exam to allocate spaces. To be making an issue of it as per ranking is taking the nation down a road that is totally and wholly unnecessary and only creates discord. The ranking of SEA is not a certification.”

Government stopped publishing the list after there was a mix-up with the award of the President’s Medal (Gold) in 2020. The parents of the students involved threatened to pursue legal action against the Education Ministry.
