PM Rowley Urges Regional Leaders To Adopt “Grow Local, Eat Local” Model

Growing what we eat, eating what we grow, this is model Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, is urging regional leaders adopt in a bid to address food security in the Caribbean.

Dr Rowley made the comment while speaking at a joint media briefing with President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, held at the Diplomatic Center, St Ann’s on Thursday.

Dr Rowley reviewed the effects of climate change, the spread of wildlife’s in Europe, drought facing Europe and North America, the impact covid-19 and the war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister said the Caribbean’s heavy reliance on imported food continues to an issue of concern as there are aspects relating to price, availability and affordability.

Meanwhile, President Ali said the region must focus more on food production, supporting local farmers, investment in tackling food security.

President Ali said tourism, energy, air transportation, trade, agriculture, avoiding red tape and private sector team work are some of the areas Guyana is interested in forming partnerships with Trinidad and Tobago which will bring benefits to both countries.
