Tobago is at a critical stage in the management of covid 19 on the island. The Prime Minister held an update press conference from Tobago and indicated that while some may be calling for a relaxation of restriction in Tobago, any premature relaxation can cause a rapid increase in cases and possible deaths.
The Tobago update painted a picture which is cause for concern with a average of 35 daily new positive infections.
The update indicated that as of friday 30th (10:00pm) there were 431 active cases, one death, ten persons discharged , 382 persons in home self isolation. In Tobago 10, 319 samples taken with 1464 positive cases recorded in Tobago to date.
Secretary for Health , Wellness and Family development Tracey Davidson Celestine , indicated at the press conference that her division has opened the mass vaccination site at Shaw park, where there were 300 person awaiting vaccination as of 12:30pm Saturday 31st, July. She also said that the division is actively looking for another location on the other side of the island. She has reached out to 30 churches, and 22 youth organization to help in vaccine advocacy.
Tobago has seen on the highest day of infections at 52, 7 being at the Scarborough Hospital, 1 at a fire station, 2 at the port, 27 from primary contacts, 15 community spread. Most of the cases have been identified on the south west area of Tobago.
