PM relying on sound legal advice for THA deadlock

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, says efforts to deal with the six-six deadlock in the Tobago House Assembly are based on reliable legal advice and staying within provisions which already exist in the governance of the THA.

Piloting debate on the THA Amendment Bill, 2021 in the House of Representatives this afternoon, Dr Rowley said under the current law the Assembly will automatically dissolve after a four year period has elapsed and the Chief Secretary will have to call the election.

Dr Rowley said in spite of the various suggestions put forward he will stay with what the law allows for.

The Prime Minister then revealed the changes the government is seeking to get approved by the parliament.
