PM comes in for high praise from WHO Dir Gen for his handling of the Covid pandemic

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has come in for heavy praise from the Director General of the World Health organisation Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Both the WHO Director General and Dr Rowley hosted a press conference this morning at the Diplomatic Center St Anns.

During the press conference Dr Ghebreyesus thanked Prime Minister Rowley for his handling of matters during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Just over a month ago the WHO Head declared that Covid was no longer a global health emergency.

However Dr Ghebreyesus said this morning that although this is indeed so, the virus is still present so there is need for vigilance.

He maintained the need for readiness for any other pandemic going forward.

He said we must be the generation that learned the lessons it has taught us to make the changes necessary to keep ourselves and each other safer.

He noted one of the most important ways countries are doing that is the signing of a new international accord on preparedness and response.

The WHO Director General sought however to clarify misinformation surrounding the accord.
