Pipe failure causes Methanol to temporarily shut down

There was a pipe failure at Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited on Thursday which caused the company to temporarily close.

According to a memo released by the company, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m at its M5 plant.

“Our emergency procedures were activated to ensure the safety of our people and securing of the plant. There were no injuries or negative environmental impacts.”

An eyewitness shared a video that showed smoke coming from one of the company’s pipes.

The company said that an investigation has been launched into the incident, adding that the facility will be inspected in keeping with safety protocols.

The company thanked its first responders and employees for their assistance during the incident.
