Phillip Morris Int’l to place new graphical health warning on all cigarette packs in T&T

Philip Morris International (PMI) has announced that the packs of all its cigarette brands in Trinidad and Tobago (L&M and Marlboro) will include a new Graphical Health Warning.

This is part of its continued commitment to abide with the regulations and policies of the Ministry of Health.

PMI will start the transition of its packs by the January 2022 and guarantees that all its products will maintain the same price and characteristics that adult smokers in Trinidad & Tobago are accustomed to. As per Ministry of Health and Tobacco Control Unit guidelines, the deadline to transition all cigarette brands sold in Trinidad and Tobago to the required graphical health warnings is March 24, 2022.

In order to meet the standards of the regulatory policy, PMI worked closely with the Tobacco Control Unit (TCU) of the Ministry of Health to ensure that all PMI products with the new Graphical Health Warnings have gained the requisite approvals.

“Our commitment globally is to ensure that PMI abides by the laws and policies of each country in which it operates. As such we must comply with the regulations set forth by the Trinidad and Tobago government. The company believes that this policy also will help our trade partners and legal aged consumers to identify illicit products as they would not have Graphical Health Warnings that comply with Ministry of Health guidelines,” said Sheldon Wood, PMI Country Manager for Trinidad & Tobago and Export. “The local authorities can now use this element to effectively seize illegal brands and apply the relevant sanctions to discourage illicit cigarette handling.”

PMI is a leading international tobacco company engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, as well as smoke-free products, associated electronic devices and accessories, and other nicotine-containing products in markets outside the US.

Philip Morris International (PMI) is leading a transformation in the tobacco industry to create a smoke-free future and ultimately replace cigarettes with smoke-free products to the benefit of adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, society, the company, its shareholders, and its other stakeholders.
