Persad-Bissessar: Jesus’ resurrection is a testament that darkness and difficulty are only temporary

Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on citizens, who are facing the toughest of times, to put their faith in God and know that he will deliver us all with his unwavering love.

She made the statement in her Easter Sunday message to the nation, adding that “Easter Sunday confirms to us that God will always renew and rebuild those who seek him for his love is never-ending.”

The following is the Opposition Leader’s full Easter Monday message to the nation:
Jesus’ resurrection is testament that darkness & difficulty are temporary with God’s grace.
Today we celebrate the most beautiful words as spoken by the angel to the women who went to Jesus’ tomb on the third day, which exemplify God’s love and magnificent power above all: “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.”

Today is as jubilant a day as it gets at any time of the year as we join our Christian sisters and brothers in celebrating the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and I offer warm Easter Greetings to our Christian community, I often reflect on the great meaning this day has for all of humanity.

For me, Jesus’ resurrection is a testament that darkness and difficulty are only temporary with God’s grace. Only two days ago, we observed the crucifixion of Jesus. Two days later, on Easter Sunday, we observe the magnificent power of God to turn sorrow into light with the resurrection.

The triumph of the resurrection is reflected in Psalm 30:5:
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning”.

On Easter, we celebrate God’s message to us, that through his goodness and through his grace we shall always be granted restoration, renewal and resurrection.

I cannot highlight enough how much suffering, hardship and burdens our citizens face. Today our citizens face self-doubt and trauma, and so many suffer from feeling neglected.

I ask our citizens facing the toughest of times to put their faith in God and know that he will deliver us all with his unwavering love.

As Good Friday taught us about God’s love for us, Easter Sunday confirms to us that God will always renew and rebuild those who seek him for his love is never-ending.

His sacrifice is a perfect example to humanity of how we should relate to one another: with compassion, generosity and selflessness. His resurrection illustrates that such virtues ultimately result in victory over adversity.
Just as Jesus did for us, may we be thus inspired to be a light in the darkness to our fellow citizens; to fearlessly confront injustice wherever it exists, especially when it does not affect us directly; and to champion causes on behalf of others.
