Permanent Secretary Describes Transition Central Statistical Office As A Costly Exercise

A very costly exercise is the assessment given by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Planning and Development, Joanne Deoraj, concerning the transition of the Central Statistical Office to the National Statistical Institute.

Ms Deoraj said she was not in a position to give an exact figure for move.

Ms Deoraj made the remarks while speaking at the ninth meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Finance and Legal Affairs on Friday.

The JSC inquired into the effectiveness and efficiency of the CSO.

The senior official said the CSO is liaising with the Office of the Attorney General with respect to the legislative changes which will be needed to ensure this transition becomes a reality.

Ms Deoraj then went into matters relating to the financial transition.
