Pedestrian knocked down while attempting to cross CRH

A man who was killed while trying to cross the Churchill Roosevelt Highway on Thursday night.

The incident took place around 7:30 pm along the eastbound Lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Bestcrete.

Police report that a 71-year-old man from D’Abadie, was driving his silver Mazda 626 along the highway when he observed a man attempting to run across the roadway.

The driver applied brakes and attempted to avoid the pedestrian.

However, he was unsuccessful and came into contact with the victim, his body being propelled several feet away.

The police and emergency health services were notified, however, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The deceased was said to be a man of African descent, approximately mid-60s, strong built, dark in complexion, greying Rasta hairstyle, approximately 5 ft. 6 inches tall, clad in a purple jersey, black camouflage tights, blue ¾ jeans pants.

Arouca police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man.
