PCA TT welcomes PCA Barbados to Caribbean law enforcement body

The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) Trinidad and Tobago has announced that the Police Complaints Authority of Barbados (PCAB) has joined the Caribbean Association of Law Enforcement Bodies (CAFOLE) agreement.

In a statement, the PCA T&T said Mark Forde Chairman of the PCAB signed the agreement on the 26th April, 2023.

The agency said: “The joining of PCAB to CAFOLE is a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in law enforcement across the Caribbean region. The PCA believes that collaboration among similar civilian oversight law enforcement bodies is crucial in ensuring that citizens are served and protected in a fair and just manner.”

David West, Director of the PCA, expressed his pleasure at the signing of the agreement, saying, “We welcome the Police Complaints Authority of Barbados to CAFOLE and look forward to working with them to enhance the accountability and transparency of law enforcement in the Caribbean. This collaboration will provide an opportunity to share best practices and to work towards a common goal of upholding professionalism and integrity within law enforcement agencies. My goal as Director is to expand and thereby encourage other jurisdictions to adopt civilian oversight of law enforcement.”

CAFOLE is an agreement among civilian oversight law enforcement bodies in the Caribbean aimed at enhancing regional cooperation, promoting best practices, and improving law enforcement accountability. With the addition of PCAB, CAFOLE now includes the participation of four civilian oversight of law enforcement bodies across the region.

The PCA said it is confident that this collaboration will strengthen the relationship between the two countries and further promote a culture of accountability and transparency in law enforcement.
