PCA Reveals Increased Complaints Against The TTPS From 2015 To Present

The Police Complaints Authority reports an increase in complaints made against the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service during the period September 2015 to present.

Director of the Police Complaints Commission, David West, says they have submitted over five hundred complaints to the Commissioner of Police and referred over one hundred matters to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

West made the comments at a Town Hall meeting in Port of Spain this week to discuss the importance of accountability and transparency.

Turning his attention to the use of body cameras by police officers he said the devices can help to protect officers from false claims.

During a police briefing on September 5, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Junior Benjamin,o  said the TTPS has begun its acquisition of body cameras which will soon be utilized by their officers.

West said it would be to the officers’ benefit if they do so.
