Patients Resistant To Medical Intervention On Mental Health Issues, Confirms T&T Association Of Psychologists

The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists is reporting what it describes as a great deal of reluctance among the population to accept medical intervention in the form of prescribed medications and institutional treatment to address mental health issues.

The assessment was made known by President of the organization, Charles Collier, during today’s sitting on the Joint Select Committee into the mental and psychosocial services available to the population during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Collier said there are other therapeutic and behavioral interventions which persons respond to more favorable instead of deciding to use medication.

Mr. Collier also cited some of the varying factors which adversely affected men during the covid-19 pandemic such as restriction in outdoor activities, loss of jobs, alcohol abuse and domestic violence.
