PAHO: “Omicron Variant detected in nine countries in the Americas.”

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has confirmed that the omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in nine countries in the Americas.

The countries include the United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda.

PAHO held its last media briefing for the year on Wednesday.

PAHO’s Incident Manager for COVID-19, Dr Sylvain Aldighieri, said the omicron cases detected in the region are mostly associated with travel.

He further added that the Delta variant continues to still dominate all sub-regions of the Americas.
