OWTU Calls For Electricity Rates Not To Be Increased

The Oilfields Workers Trade Union is demanding electricity rates not be increased for ordinary residential customers.

Instead OWTU is appealling for the multinationals to pay more for electricity which they use to generate huge profits.

In a media release on Friday, the union said privatisation of T&TEC and the sending home of all its workers will not be in the interest of the people.

Meanwhile, OWTU is calling on the government to immediately review the Power Purchase Agreements ensuring the bulk suppliers pay National Gas Company for the use of the gas.

OWTU also appealed on the government to immediately pay its own light and power bills to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission and continue to pay on time.
