Oppositon MP Calls On National Petroleum To Explore Marketing Opportunities Regionally

The Board of National Petroleum is being urged to explore petroleum marketing opportunities in the light of the very significant presence of “Export Barbados” and the “Barbados National Oil Company” on the margins of the international energy conference in Georgetown, Guyana.

In a media release on Thursday, Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles called on the government to contemplate new business models for NP that could responsibly and independently engage the Guyanese private sector or it’s Government.

MP Charles said a new NP model may even contemplate regional or Guyanese equity investors in a reconstituted petroleum marketing entity.

MP Charles noted that he left NP in 2000 as marketing manager and was part of a team that oversaw not only the service station network upgrade establishing nine Quik Shoppes; but more so a regional export thrust in industrial and automotive lubricants.
