Opposition Senator Calls For Audit Of Funds Used In Government’s Covid19 Response

A call is made for a commission of inquiry and an audit to be done into money used by the government in response to the Covid-19 pandemic in Trinidad and Tobago.

The request came from Opposition Senator, David Nakhid, during his piloting of a motion on government’s management of the virus.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, Mr Nakhid cited some of the areas where he claimed there was need for a more coordinated approach to address the situation.

The Minister of Health indicated the government spent 480 million dollars to tackle the development.

However, Mr Nakhid questioned whether the nation got value for money from the financial resources spent.

Mr Nakhid also wanted to know if the Ministry satisfied adherence to meeting international standards in the response to the pandemic.
