Opposition Rejects Nomination Of Christine Kangaloo For President

The Opposition, United National Congress, is rejecting the nomination of Christine Kangaloo by the government for the country’s next President.

This was made clear by Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar, during a news briefing held at the Office of the leader of the Opposition at Charles Street, Port of Spain today.

Mrs Persad Bissessar said the Opposition’s stance was reached after getting the input of her parliamentarians.

She said the position was indicated to the Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives, Camille Robinson Regis.

Mrs Persad Bissessar claimed the nominee put forward today has close ties to the government.

The Opposition Leader said she will ask the Prime Minister to reconsider his position, adding that the UNC has some nominees which it cannot make public at this time.

She also wished the outgoing President Paula Mae Weekes all the best moving forward.
