Opposition MP Calls For Answers Regarding Recommendations On Child Abuse Reports

The Opposition is questioning whether Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ayanna Webster-Roy, has received the work plan from the taskforce established to address the recommendations of the report of retired Justice Judith Jones into abuse at children’s homes in Trinidad and Tobago.

Member of Parliament for Princes Town, Barry Padarath, issued the call in a media release on Friday.

MP Padarath said in a ministerial statement to the Parliament on April 29th, Minister Webster-Roy stated the taskforce would have a six-week window to produce a work plan on how to give effect to the recommendations of the Jones report.

MP Padarath cited some of the recommendations such as the establishment of a commissioner’s office for children affairs, the proclamation of legislation dealing with a licensing regime for community residences and children’s homes, as well as the establishment of a National   Commission on Children.
