One held following police-involved shooting incident in Arouca

One man was arrested and the search is on for others following a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in Arouca on Saturday.

A report issued by the TTPS states officers of the Arouca Police Station were conducting an exercise between 8:45 pm on Friday 2nd April, 2021 and 12:45 am, on Saturday 3rd April, 2021, when they responded to a report of loud explosions in Arouca.

The officers, in the company of officers of the Northern Division Task Force, Area Central, while responding to the report, made attempts to intercept a silver B-14 motor vehicle which was proceeding along Lopinot Road, Arouca.

The vehicle initially evaded interception and its occupants fired at the officers, who in keeping with the Use of Force policy, returned fire in the direction of the vehicle.

The vehicle was later abandoned by its occupants in the vicinity of Sunset Drive.

One suspect, a 21-year-old of La Pastora Village, Lopinot, was held, attempting to flee the scene. A search is currently on for the other suspects.

Investigations are ongoing.
