One held, ammo and narcotics seized by the cops

One Held, Firearms, Ammunition and Narcotics Seized in Ongoing Weekend Exercises and Safe City Initiative

One man was arrested, three firearms seized and a motor vehicle which was reported stolen, recovered, during ongoing weekend anti-crime exercises across three different Divisions.

In the Southern Division, officers of the Tableland Police Station conducted an intelligence-led anti-crime exercise around 9:30 pm, on Friday 2nd December, 2022 during which they stopped a white Nissan Frontier motor vehicle with one male occupant.

A search resulted in officers finding two shotguns along with 1 twelve gauge cartridge in the vehicle.

The 22-year-old suspect of the area was arrested in connection with the find.

In the Western Division, officers conducted an exercise overnight in the Maraval district, during which they proceeded to Moraldo Street, where they conducted a search of a bushy area which resulted in a pistol loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition.

Officers, acting on information, then proceeded to Upper Phillip Trace, Maraval, where they found one black Toyota Corolla motor vehicle which had been reported stolen in the Port of Spain Division on Friday 2nd December, 2022.

Investigations are ongoing into all these matters.

And, in keeping with directives of the Acting Commissioner of Police, McDonald Jacob, a Safe City Initiative comprising active directed foot and mobile patrols was executed in the Port of Spain Division overnight.

The exercise was conducted between 11 pm, on Saturday 3rd December, 2022 and 3 am, on Sunday 4th December, 2022 and comprised officers of the CCPU, the Gang and Intelligence Unit, the Besson Street, Belmont, St. Claire and Woodbrook Police Stations, the Port of Spain Task Force, the Criminal Investigations Department and the Licensing Office.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to Sarano Road, Belmont, where they conducted a search of an abandoned structure which resulted in officers finding 40 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and a quantity of cocaine.

Officers also arrested two persons for driving under the influence and driving without a driver’s permit. A total of 103 Electronic Fixed Penalty Notices were also issued.
