One dead in police-involved shooting in Diego Martin

Police are trying to identity a man who was shot during a police-involved shooting in Diego Martin last evening.

Officers of the Western Division Task Force were conducting patrols along Bagatelle Road around 6:40 pm, when they observed a group standing along the roadway.

When the officers attempted to question the group, several individuals fled the scene and police reported that one man was observed holding his waist and he was pursued.

The suspect then allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at the officers, causing them to take cover and return fire in keeping with the use-of-force policy.

In the aftermath, the suspect fell to the ground.

Police said a nearby firearm was found and seized, and a 17-year-old teen also surrendered to the police after throwing a weapon on the ground.

The injured man was conveyed to the St James District Health Facility, however, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
