Officer slashed while making arrest in Santa Cruz

A police corporal and a civilian had to be taken to hospital for treatment on Monday, following a stabbing incident in Santa Cruz.

The officer, identified as PC Anand Dass was part of an exercise with the North Eastern Division Task Force, coordinated by Senior Supt Maharaj, Supt Roger Alexander and Ramjohn, ASP Beharry.

The officers were said to be responding to a report of a J’ouvert party along Kingston Avenue, off La Canoa Road.

The officers began to disperse the crowd, however, one of the men begun to act in an aggressive manner.

The man who appeared to be drunk, began cursing the officers and when PC Dass attempted to arrest him he began fighting with Dass in the process slashing Dass in the back.

The man was eventually arrested. Both Dass and the man were taken to seek medical attention.
