Officer shot while intercepting car thieves

The hunt is on for two men who shot and wounded a police officer during the early hours of Friday morning.

At around 12:05am, CPL Augustus and WPC Singh of the Chaguanas CID were responding to a report that a man armed with a rifle had made off with a white Subaru Imprezza at Sumaria Trace West, off Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville.

The officers were able to intercept the vehicles a short distance away, but upon approach, a man on the passenger side of the stolen vehicle opened fire, striking CPL Augustus on his left upper leg.

The officer was taken to hospital and remains warded in a stable condition.

The vehicle was abandoned and the suspects escaped.
